WEST statisticians Chris Nations and Mandy Kauffman are co-authors on the publication “Effects of tones associated with drilling activities on bowhead whale calling rates”, which was recently published in the Public Library of Science. Collaborators included the University of California San Diego, and Greeneridge Sciences, Inc.

WEST’s Dr. Jason Carlisle, Hall Sawyer, and John Lombardi will be in attendance at the Annual Wildlife Society Wyoming Chapter, December 5th through 7th, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The conference brings together biologists, consultants, researchers, and others who manage, conserve, and study wildlife population habitats to share and collaborate ideas of wildlife management. Dr. Jason Carlisle will be teaching the workshop “Sage Thrashers raise the roof: does an augmented nest structure conceal the nest from predators, or improve its microclimate?” and John Lombardi will be presenting “Landscape-scale model of mule deer habitat use during summer in south-central OR”.

WEST biologists Dr. Karl Kosciuch and Kenton Taylor will present at CLE International: Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) and the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act (BGEPA) Conference in Denver, Colorado. The two-day conference explores the complexities of federal wildlife laws and rules to protect migratory birds and eagles under the MBTA and BGEPA. Karl will be presenting “Eagle Incidental Take Permits” on November 30th and Kenton Taylor to present “Eagle Nest and Disturbance Permits” on December 1st.
